Program Feature
Supported by : Poverty Alleviation Fund.
Period: May 2006 to till now.
Working Area: Bijulpura and Pashupatinagar VDCs of Mahottari District.

Program details / Achievements
  • 50 groups of ethnic and lower casts are formed.
  • About 225 household and 1000 poor people are involved in these groups.
  • Different types of income generating activities are proposed by target groups for increasing their income.
  • Users' groups will become able to fully operate program themselves.
  • Linkage and collaborate with local government and other agencies like DDC, VDC and line agencies etc.
  • Leadership skill developed in users' groups.
Program background
IRDS/SAMAJ has been working with the poor to uplift their socio-economic status through this program. The main target group of this program is the poor, women, lower castes, indigenous & Ethnic.
This program runs according to the demand and necessities of target groups.
Objective
To reduce the poverty level from the society and increased the living status of poor people and demand driven approach to maximum community participation, optimum cost- effectiveness and to increase capacity of local people for leadership, resource management and planning.
Process and Activities
  • Income generating groups are formed.
  • 90% grant assistance is provided according to group demand.
  • Necessary trainings are provided to empowerment their skills.
  • Project will totally depend as per groups' demand and necessity.
  • Direct funding to community.
  • It will legally register in local authorities.
Lesson learnt
  • If all the responsibilities of the program like project selection, designing, estimating and implementation etc. given to the users' groups then program will be succeed and sustainable.
